La sessione di registrazione in studio per l’uscita del tanto anelato primo 45 giri era un traguardo ambìto per molte garage bands americane di liceali di metà anni sessanta. Ma come riuscirci? Si poteva tentare la via delle “Battles of the Bands”, le quali non di rado annoveravano tra i premi proprio la sessione di registrazione gratuita presso una sala locale o regionale; oppure sondare il terreno delle “conoscenze” e dei “ganci”, magari tramite amici di discografici locali o di responsabili di programmazione delle radio; o ancora si tentava l’invio “al buio” di demo e registrazioni casalinghe, sperando di finire sotto il radar di qualcuno del “giro”. Nella presente sezione discografica troviamo bands che tentarono (con sorti variegate) tutte e tre le vie, ma in particolar modo quella delle demo e delle registrazioni “home made”. Quando si concluderà questa ampia discografia garage rock del 1966 cercheremo di scavare nel mondo di acetati e demo, fin là dove davvero quasi nessuno spinge lo sguardo…
