La possibilità di avere entrate economiche discretamente regolari era generalmente uno dei “chiodi fissi” di una garage rock band di liceali americani di metà anni ‘60.
Non di rado la costanza delle entrate era preferita all’ammontare stesso di ciascuna di esse, specialmente quando si ricorreva (in molti casi) al “management” autogestito e “home-made”. Va da sé che il poter contare su amicizie tra la gioventù agiata (ancor meglio con contatti in politica) era un vero toccasana, sia dal punto di vista dei “ganci” con il mondo discografico, sia sulla possibilità di avere svariate occasioni per animare feste private a tema musicale. Ne deriva che per le band esordienti i “pool parties” (feste in piscina nell’ambito di una cerchia di amicizie benestanti) costituissero una non trascurabile fetta di entrate economiche; inoltre le feste rientravano in quel contesto irrinunciabile in cui il “passaparola” a volte era persino più efficace e capillare di una promozione manageriale a pagamento.
