CALEIDOSCOPIO ROCK USA ANNI 60
La storia del garage rock americano degli anni ‘60 ha visto figure carismatiche e a volte anche “scomode” in ruoli di responsabilità in etichette discografiche grandi e piccole. Parecchi di questi personaggi erano dotati di un ego smisurato, avevano il difetto di accentrare e “personalizzare” al massimo la catena decisionale, anche a costo di rischi e di “fughe in avanti” pericolose. Una di queste figure fu Vincent “Vince” Rago, responsabile e quasi “plenipotenziario” delle tre etichette “Universal Records”, “Richie” e “Rago”, tutte dell’area di Wilmington (Delaware); fu uomo dai modi molto diretti, a volte rudi e spicci, ma dotato di innato fiuto per il versante promozionale dei dischi e profondo estimatore ed instancabile sostenitore del garage rock nel biennio 1965-1966. Qui in particolare ci soffermeremo sull’etichetta “Richie”, dedicata alla memoria di uno dei figli di Rago; in numerose “compilation” del garage rock, il “label” Richie compare tuttora con svariate incisioni interessanti. Da rilevare come (purtroppo) una discreta quantità di materiale non pubblicato negli anni di attività di Rago venne poi disperso o trascurato dai nipoti, che non seppero intuire le potenzialità di quel lascito musicale.
